ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

(A) Admission into the MPhil Programme is opened to:

  1. First degree holders (with at least second class lower division) in Pharmaceutical, Biomedical and Medical Sciences, who have acquired the degree from an accredited tertiary institution.
  2. Non-research master’s degree holders in the appropriate and related fields of study as stated above with CGPA of 2.5 or better.
  3. All applicants must attend and pass an interview.

(B) Admission into the PhD is opened to;

  1. MPhil degree holders in appropriate fields of study such as Biomedical, Pharmaceutical and Clinical Sciences.
  2. Non-research master’s degree with CGPA of 3.5 or better in Biomedical, Pharmaceutical and Clinical Sciences, with not more than one grade C+ or lower and B+ or better in Research Methods.
  3. All applicants must attend and pass an interview.

PROGRESSION AND RETENTION

A successful applicant will be offered probationary admission as Postgraduate Research Student (PRS) for the first year. Students may progress to the second year (thesis phase) as MPhil/PhD students after having satisfied the following conditions:

  1. Taken and pass all required courses including academic writing (if not already taken)
  2. Obtained a CGPA of 2.5 or better (for MPhil)
  3. Successfully defended a research proposal for the level (MPhil/PhD)
  4. Students who are unable to meet the requirements for regularizing their PhD candidacy after the first year may continue the research and terminate with an MPhil. degree. Alternatively, the student may step down to a non-research degree (MSc.) in accordance with the School of Graduate Studies policy on condition that he/she has satisfied the minimum requirement for award of such degree (i.e. obtained a CGPA of 2.5).
  5. Students enrolled on the MPhil programme may apply to be upgraded to the PhD programme in accordance with the School of Graduate Studies policy after fulfilling the following requirements:
  1. Obtained a CGPA of 3.5 or better, with not more than one grade C+ or lower and B+ or better in Research Methods.
  2. Exceptional aptitude for research work and demonstrable ability for pursuing a PhD within the stipulated period
