As modern medicine advances, the Medical Laboratory Science discipline also expands. The department trains professionals to undertake basic clinical laboratory investigations — interpreting and communicating results, managing resources and applying safety principles in clinical environments. Training includes a structured clinical internship at accredited health facilities.
Students gain competencies in haematology, clinical biochemistry, medical microbiology, immunology and parasitology, equipping them to serve as frontline diagnosticians in Ghana's health system.

The Department of Biomedical Sciences bridges basic science and clinical medicine through advanced study of parasitology, pharmacology, biochemistry and human pathophysiology. It is the research arm of SAHS, offering MPhil and PhD pathways in Drug Discovery & Toxicology and Epidemiology.
Undergraduate students gain a strong foundation in biomedical principles underpinning modern medical science. Postgraduate researchers contribute to drug development, disease surveillance and public health innovation in Ghana and across Africa.

The Department of Medical Imaging Technology and Sonography produces radiographers and sonographers skilled in diagnostic imaging including plain radiography, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, CT and MRI. Students develop both the technical skills and clinical reasoning to support medical diagnosis across all major organ systems.
Graduates serve in teaching hospitals, district hospitals and private diagnostic centres, supporting Ghana's growing radiological infrastructure and the expanding need for non-invasive diagnostic procedures.

The Department of Health Information Management trains professionals who design, manage and protect health data systems — the digital backbone of modern evidence-based healthcare delivery. Students study clinical coding, electronic health records, health data analysis, information governance and hospital information systems.
Graduates work in hospitals, insurance organisations, government health agencies and private sector health IT companies, supporting the data systems that underpin clinical decision-making and health policy in Ghana.

The Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics trains nutritionists and dietitians in clinical, community and public health nutrition. The curriculum combines biochemistry of nutrients, clinical dietetics, nutrition in disease management and food service management, preparing students to work across hospitals, clinics, public health agencies and the food industry.
The department was recently supported by a major equipment donation from the University of California, Davis — significantly boosting laboratory research and clinical training capacity. The Vice-Dean of SAHS, Prof. (Mrs.) Christiana Naa Atsreh Nsiah-Asamoah, leads from this department.

The Department of Sport and Exercise Science provides Ghana's leading undergraduate programme in human performance, sports medicine, exercise physiology and fitness science. Students study anatomy and physiology of exercise, biomechanics, sports psychology, nutrition for performance and sports injury prevention and rehabilitation.
Graduates serve as exercise scientists, fitness coaches, sports performance analysts, physiotherapy support staff and wellness coordinators — serving national sports organisations, hospitals, rehabilitation centres, schools and the corporate wellness sector.
